Ross-on-Wye Christmas Country Market
Christmas is fast approaching and it is time to be thinking about the festivity and all that goes with it. What do we need? What would we like? A little treat or two perhaps…but where to find them?
So have you tried the Ross Country Market? A hidden gem, according to some of our new customers who wish they had found the market ages ago!
Our cooks are thinking about Christmas goodies; how many mince pies, Christmas cakes and puds need to be made and what enticing new items could we offer. Already underway are festive fudges, Christmas cookies and shortbread, cute marzipans, mini to macro-sized Christmas cakes and various varieties of mince pies. Usual and unusual jams, marmalades and other preserves will also be available, some of which you would be hard pushed to find elsewhere. Eggs, savouries and apple juices are also popular. Since the weather cooled in September and became more typically British with the rain, the seasonal veg is now bountiful. The festive parsnips, sprouts and carrots are looking and tasting good, as are the artichokes, tomatilloes and the must-try, delicious sprout tops. Order forms are available and some customers have already returned theirs to secure their requirements.
Looking for a unique gift…?
One of our producers is a talented Malaysian artist who paints greetings cards, original pictures, glassware, Tupperware, t-shirts, bags…and many other items! Ask and she will personalise her greetings cards while you watch and wait. From 8th December she will be demonstrating her effective painting techniques.
Another producer is a local author who has written historical books on Ross, Ledbury and Leominster. Maybe a book signed by the author himself would make an ideal gift for that person you know who has just about everything?
The Christmas markets will be 8th, 15th and 22nd December, and alongside the usual produce, there will be the customary tombola, the popular sweet jar competition and last year we had a ‘Where am I in Ross?’ quiz. This year the quiz will be a mix of ‘Where am I?’ and ‘Where was I?’ which will feature black and white photos of Ross from the previous century.
So, as previously mentioned, we are already geared up for Christmas: the mincemeat being prepped; quantity of goodies being guestimated; the order form printed and ready for customers to pick up; the tombola prizes organised; the Christmas quiz being pondered.
So why not take a break from the rush and stress of Christmas shopping and come along to the market. You don’t even need to remember to bring cash as we now take card payments. Relax with a coffee and mince pie while attempting the quiz and peruse at your leisure what we have to offer. You never know, you might just be able to cross off that last item on your ‘To do’ list…!
The market is open every Saturday, 9 am – 12.30 pm and is held at The Venue, Hill Street, Ross-on-Wye HR9 7AD.
