Written after their enormous success with Oklahoma, this classic show contains a whole host of popular songs including If I loved You, June is Bustin Out All Over and the iconic You’ll Never Walk Alone which has become very much part of the fabric of British culture. Set on the Maine coastline in the early part of the nineteenth century the show, once described by Richard Rogers as his favourite, tells the story of Billy Bigelow, a carefree fairground barker, and his tempestuous relationship with Julie Jordan, an innocent mill worker whom he meets at Mrs Mullin’s famous Carousel. When this relationship ends in tragedy, he is given the opportunity to make amends for all the wrongs he’s done. The show also features the on off comedy relationship between the irrepressible Carrie, Julie’s mill worker friend, and the very shy local businessman the loveable Mr Enoch Snow.
Monmouth Music Theatre who won a Noda award in 2019 for best production for Sister Act will be performing Carousel at the Savoy Theatre from 25th to the 28th March at 7:30. They will be joined on stage by members of Mayhem Youth Theatre Group, themselves Noda Award winners, who will be playing members of Mr Shows ever increasing family.
