January at Monmouth Savoy

A street cat named BobJanuary is always a big film month. The studios are gearing up for awards season so the beginning of the year is awash with quality product. Our post Christmas season starts on January 6th with A STREETCAT NAMED BOB. We’ve had loads of requests for this compelling story of a homeless man who is be-friended by a stray cat who turns his life round. The film makers started using a stand in cat when they shot the film but it didn’t work so the cat you see is the real Bob playing himself!

Disney launch a new animated film every Christmas and their star turn this year is MOANA an animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. We will be running the film for ten days.

We have a double bill in the week of January 20th both of which tell the stories of two men in the new for widely diverging reasons. Chesley Sullenberger was piloting an aircraft in 2009 which developed problems and he took a chance of landing it on the Hudson River in New York. He miraculously saved every passenger and crew member. Tom Hanks plays SULLY in this biopic Even though we all know the outcome its a thrilling film full of tension.

This will be shown in partnership with SNOWDEN the film of the man who has give the USA a major headache following his disclosure of some shocking surveillance techniques by the security forces in America. Hero or villain? You judge.

The final film of the month is the hugely anticipated SILENCE, the new film directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese. It is set in the 17th century and tells of two missionaries (Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver) face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan to find their missing mentor (Liam Neeson). It is heavily tipped for Oscar success.
