This autumn, on Saturday, 24th November, Ross Penyard Singers will be performing in their new concert, ‘When Handel Came to Town.’
George Frideric Handel was born in Germany in 1685 but settled in London in 1712, and lived in England for nearly fifty years. He is considered to be one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era, with works such as ‘Messiah’ and ‘Water Music’ remaining popular with modern audiences.
The concert will include the performance of 10 choruses by the full choir, as well as several solo and duet items sung by choir members. These performances will include music composed for ‘Chandos Anthem No 6’, ‘Acis and Galatea’, ‘Judas Maccabeus’ and ‘Messiah.’
The choir will be supported by several musicians including an oboist, a pianist and a string section, and the concert will feature an Oboe Concerto.
This event will take place at ‘The Venue’ in the centre of Ross at 7.30 pm.
As a choir we are always looking to welcome new members. We meet once a week during term time on a Wednesday evening from 7.00 to 9.00 pm at Ashfield Park Primary School in Ross. We are a non-auditioning choir, so just come along to a rehearsal and have a go!
Our Musical Director of many years has recently relocated to West Wales, so we are currently looking to appoint someone to this post. Anybody interested in applying should contact our Chairman Laurie Pegrum at firstname.lastname@example.org.
