Monmouth’s Mayhem Theatre Group will be bringing a touch of the Deep South to the town in October when it performs Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s hit musical Whistle Down the Wind at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls.The show which is closer to the 1959 book than to the 1961 film features lyrics from Meatloaf’s Jim Steinman and includes one of the most popular songs of the 1990 s , Boyzone’s number one hit “No Matter What ” .It’s title song was also a top 30 hit for Tina Arena.
Mayhem are a group of talented local boys and girls aged 11 to 18 who are led by an enthusiastic team of volunteers and parents who meet to bring West End Shows, to the town.Their 2018 production of the Addams Family Musical swept the boards at the national Noda awards ceremony in May where they won Best Youth Production of the Year and two individual performance awards for Oliver Riba Fookes 15 and Gracie Follows 18 for their roles as Gomez and Wednesday Addams.
Despite only being formed in 2017 Mayhem has already achieved notable success with many members taking forward paths into professional careers.
This includes 17 year old local youngster Josh Morgan who is currently studying Musical Theatre at the World famous Brit School in London which is heavy supported by Lloyd Webber himself who is a regular visitor to the school.
Whistle Down the Wind which will feature a full orchestra will be performed on Sunday 20th October at 5.00 and Tuesday 22nd Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th October at 7.30
