The Russian Vocal Ensemble “Voskresenije”, comprising professional musicians from the St Petersburg Conservatoire, are returning in October for their seventeenth visit to Monmouth to perform in St Mary’s Priory Church. The concert, as usual, will comprise two distinct types of music; part 1 is Russian Orthodox Church music, and part 2 is Russian Folk music, all sung unaccompanied as is customary in the Orthodox Church.
The ensemble as usual comprises two each of soprano, alto, tenor and bass, and the conductor; no amplification is used, or indeed needed, but even so the church is filled with their unique Russian sound. This year the ensemble will be giving only four concerts in South Wales, less than usual, before moving north, eventually to Scotland, before returning to Russia.
Anyone who would like an opportunity to hear this excellent Russian ensemble should come to St Mary’s Priory Church on Thursday October 11th; the performance begins at 7-30 pm; tickets are £8, only at the door.
