Advent is better understood, not as a “count-down” but rather as a “build-up” to Christmas. A preparation period that can be treated as time to stand still in yourself and take stock. For an awful lot of us it may feel more like commercial stock-taking, calculating what we’re getting for our festive celebrations and how much (or little) we can [over]spend on the obligatory present-giving ! To the extent that some people say, “Oh, I dread Christmas ” or even, “We’ve given up on Christmas – all that fuss and tinsel…”
So here’s your golden opportunity to face the coming season in a different mood. Your local Ross Choral Society presents you with a glorious programme in their evening Concert on Saturday 1st December, in St Mary’s Parish Church.
J S Bach’s “Wachet Auf” cantata is a wake-up call to “Get ready” for what’s at the heart of it all : the implosion of God the Creator into his own creation as a human being.
The Bach is complemented by a selection of choral carols both rich and rare in their harmonies and originality, such as Howells’ “Spotless Rose” and Warlock’s “Bethlehem Down”.
Join us, for an Adventure into Advent !
