World-class concerts, masterclasses, tango at the church and a trip to the pub. The sixth Hellensmusic is the most varied to date. Firmly established as a main event in Herefordshire’s musical calendar the festival starts 16th May with an evening of tango’s star instrument, the bandoneon. Argentinean virtuoso Omar Massa performs at St Bartholomew’s Church offering a musical journey from Bach and Vivaldi to tango Master Astor Piazzolla.
17th brings Christian Blackshaw’s much-loved piano recital to the Church including three of his favourite sonatas: Mozart’s 15th, Beethoven’s 30th and Schubert’s Sonata in C minor. 18th and 19th May Hellens becomes the venue for concerts featuring the music of Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Mozart and Mahler performed by Hellensmusic’s extraordinary resident artists (Christian Blackshaw, Maya Iwabuchi, Markus Däunert, Máté Szücs, Bruno Delepelaire) and leading clarinettist Matthew Hunt. Afterwards the Walwyn Arms plays host to a night of tango, folk, classical and world music guaranteed to set your feet tapping!
20th May, 2 concerts complete the Festival with a celebration of Hellensmusic’s Masterclass.
