This concert is part of a major project called Beethoven In Wales. The concert will take place in St Briavels Church (remembering that St Briavel was a Welsh saint!) on Sunday 20th January at 3.00 pm.
Organised by Rhyl Music Club, the project brings together composers, performers and music clubs to celebrate the musical life of Wales. Mary Hofman and Richard Ormrod, who are based in the principality, will play the complete cycle of Beethoven’s ten sonatas for violin and piano. In addition, for each concert they have commissioned a new work by a Welsh female composer, which is also intended to give a new perspective on Beethoven. The project has already taken music to Rhyl and Welshpool; the remainding concerts will be held in Dolgellau, Machynlleth, Carmarthen, Aberystwyth, Newport (Salop) and the Rhymney Valley.
The January programme will feature Beethoven’s violin sonatas Opus 12, nos 1,2 and 3, together with Opus 24 (“Spring”). The commissioned work will be by Rhian Samuel and simply entitled “Sonata”.
Admission will be £15 for non-members, £12 for members of Wye Valley Music and £2 for students. On-line booking at www.wvm.org.uk is again recommended.
