At St David’s Hospice Care, Christmas is an exciting time, as it is for most, but is also a particularly tough time for some of our patients and families.
We are hoping to make Christmas a little brighter for those who are going through a dark time this festive season by providing them the care and support they need when they need it most.
To do this, we need to raise £9M a year! We know you have generously supported us before, and so we are hoping you will help us to spread some festive cheer as well as raising some vital funds this year:
We have a Jolly Jumper campaign that is running throughout December whereby we are encouraging businesses, schools, churches etc. to get involved by pulling out their best (or worst!) Christmas jumper and celebrating Jolly Jumper Day on a day of their choice, and we’d love for you to get involved too! We supply FREE fundraising packs to help you along the way, and you can make your day whatever you want it to be – add a cake sale, do a festive quiz, sing some jolly tunes; whatever makes you feel festive! Have fun whilst raising money to help us put a smile on more patients’ faces this Christmas.
If you would be interested in taking part in Jolly Jumper Day (see attached graphic), please let me know and I can send you your free pack and help in any way you’d like!
What do St David’s Hospice do for the community?
St David’s Hospice Care is a local charity that has been providing community-based hospice care for people with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses, and their families, since 1979. Care is provided to people living within Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and within certain areas of South and Mid Powys as well as Blaenau Gwent.
In June 2013 St David’s Hospice Care took over the management of St Anne’s Hospice which means that, should the need arise; patients can receive care in the in-patient hospice in Newport.
In addition to the four teams of Clinical Nurse Specialists, St David’s Hospice Care has a Hospice at Home team of nurses and healthcare assistants who provide hands-on care for their patients. St David’s Hospice Care also has a Family Support Team comprising social workers, welfare rights advisers, bereavement support, children’s support worker (Unicorn) and complementary therapists. There are four Day Hospices: in Newport; near Pontypool; in Ystrad Mynach and in Brecon. St David’s Hospice Care also has two Resource Centres: in Caldicot and in Monmouth. Naturally the cost of providing such high levels of care does have financial implications for the Charity. With the addition of St Anne’s Hospice it will cost St David’s Hospice Care approximately £8 million each year to provide their services and the Charity receives less than 20% of this from the NHS. In order to raise much needed funds St David’s Hospice Care has 38 charity shops, a weekly lottery, and organises many fundraising events throughout the year.
St David’s Hospice Care is indebted to the local community for their on-going support.
If would like to take part in Jolly Jumper Day, please let us know! (Ho, Ho, Ho!) We’d love to offer you any support we can!
On behalf of all of us at St David’s, thank you in advance and a huge thank you for your ongoing support over the years; we really couldn’t do it without you.
