Home-Start Volunteers Win Award

Home-Start Monmouthshire awarded at Home-Start UK’s first National Volunteers Award

Home-Start Monmouthshire was so proud that the longest serving volunteer in Wales Award went to one of their very own earlier in the year.

Back in March this year, Home-Start UK held their first National Volunteers Award event, celebrating the inspiring work done by all volunteers involved with Home-Start. Recognition was paid in particular to the contribution of eleven volunteers from as far afield as Lorn in Scotland, Down District in Northern Ireland, Monmouthshire in Wales and Shepway in England. Each received a glass trophy and a certificate signed by the charity’s royal patron, HRH Princess Alexandra.

Judy Dunt was nominated for the award by us here at Home-Start Monmouthshire as in total she had volunteered for 26 years. Pam Lloyd, manager, said,  “Judy was a volunteer for Home-Start Herefordshire (England) for 22 years before she took a break to care for her husband who had dementia. After he died, she moved to Wales and found herself missing the role she had played with Home-Start. So she decided to volunteer with the Monmouthshire scheme and has been with us for four years.”

“Judy is one of those wonderful volunteers that you can place with families who are facing great hardship and very complex issues, knowing that she will roll up her sleeves and get on with the task in hand. She is great at giving both emotional and practical support to both parents and children.”

Home-Start Monmouthshire is an independent charity that trains home visiting volunteers who give support to families. A support package is tailor made to meet the families’ specific needs, including both emotional and practical support, activities with children and help to access services.
