The beginning of July saw television celebrities, award-winning chefs and the finest local producers and musicians from around Wales and the South West gather at the farm for the first Big Day Out. Those lucky enough to get tickets for this sold out event were treated to a bursting line up of activities from outdoor cooking demonstrations, foraging walks, bush craft, campfire sing-alongs and even a chilli eating competition.
Highlights included Dallas Campbell and Matt Tebbutt firing up the outdoor pizza oven, Tom Herbert and Genevieve Taylor showed how to take the kitchen outside. Gareth Malone OBE led sing-alongs for the whole family, getting help from local children for a rendition of ‘Old MacDonald’.The music continued late into the evening with local bands The Noses and The Brwmys.
A week later, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall started their tour of Monmouthshire with a visit to the farm.
Kate and Ludo took the Royal couple for a tour of the farm, meeting children from TrellechSchool, local producers and Humble by Nature course tutors.
Of particular interest was the Aquaponic Solar Greenhouse – the first of it’s kind in the UK.
Kate Humble said: “We are over the moon that Their Royal Highnesses were able to find time in their packed schedule to come to our farm. It was a great honour to have them here.”
Before leaving TRHs unveiled a plaque to mark their visit.
