ROSS ROADies held their 16th Classic & Vintage Vehicle Road Run on Bank Holiday Monday 28th December 2015. The start and finish was the Yew Tree Inn at Peterstow, all proceeds went to the MIDLAND AIR AMBULANCE CHARITY.
Despite the storms of late, over 60 enthusiasts joined us on the day. Thankfully it remained dry allowing the open top vehicles to have a pleasurably drive. Apart from one Land Rover misbehaving prior to leaving (a quick snatch from the Wynns Chevy soon got things underway) there were no casualties throughout the day, and the routes were enjoyed by one and all.
The tractors took to the bye roads whilst all the other vehicles headed in the direction of the M50 via Ross on Wye, taking a left passed the Travellers Rest Inn.
The route would take the participants through the windy roads of Much Marcle, and Ledbury towards Hereford before returning to The Yew Tree Inn via A49.
As always, we were warmly welcomed at the Inn with hot dogs and warm soup. We had what we believe was our largest raffle, many thanks to all those who gave so generously both donating prizes, and those vehicle owners who continue to support us in raising money for this deserving cause.
The 2015 winner of the Best Presented Tractor Memorial Shield, given by the Jenkins Family and Pat Powell, in memory of Les Jenkins, together with an engraved salver as a permanent keepsake, was Ian Jackson with his 1962 Fordson Dexta.
Proceeds from this event totalled in excess of £600.00, which will be added to the similar amounts raised on previous Bank holidays. On Easter Monday, 28th March, Ross on Wye’s Councillor Colin Gray and his wife Anne will be joining us on the Road Run and on returning will be presenting the cheque to the MIDLANDS AIR ANBULANCE CHARITY. Our grateful thanks are due to Mr Alan Baker for the use of his Classic Cars for taking our guests on what is sure to be a memorable journey through the Herefordshire countryside.
Grateful thanks to Mike Johnson, family and staff of Ross on Wye Cider & Perry Co, at The Yew Tree Inn for their continued help and support.
